$40 Entrees and other ridiculousness

The New York Times has reported that the $40 entree has made its debut and is here to stay.  Some culprits: diners occupy the tables for a longer time; organic ingredients; celebrity chefs; PR costs, and profit.  When one entree goes above $40, the theory goes, all the others look like bargains.

The best part?  Sides are now not free – so your $40 gets you sole, or steak, but no sides.

The pachyderm takes no issue with the silliness of people who would pay $40 for an entree.  What she takes issue with is the fact that her pasta will now cost $30/plate.  Most restaurants price vegetarian food alongside meat prices, even though the value is not there.  Well, when she sees a plate of pasta that costs more than $15, she orders an appetizer.
