Idiocy Reigns Supreme Among Newly Elected Democrats

As blogged about previously, Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) has proposed a reinstatement of the draft.  His rationale is not about patriotism or having an adequate military; it’s about revenge.

” ‘There’s no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm’s way,” Rangel said.”

That’s mature – let’s hold the kids of Congressmen for hostage.  Obviously, if we reinstate the draft, time will run in reverse, the military will leave Iraq, Saddam will never have been brought to trial, and the rape rooms will flourish anew.   The pachyderm finds it comical that Rangel suggests having a draft instead of, say, criticising Kerry for having voted for the war.  You know, that whole “advice and consent” of Congress thing implicates Rangel’s branch of government.

Rangel originally proposed this idea in 2003, allowing for a draft of anyone from ages 18-25.  Now, he thinks that anyone who is between the ages of 18 and 42 should be drafted.  Oh, yeah, that’s a great idea – drag parents of toddlers into Iraq instead of letting them work and put a roof over their kid’s heads and food on the table.  Nevermind the fact that most of them would then be out of a job at the end of the mandatory service.  Oh, wait… those are the problems of the hoi polloi.

“He said having a draft would not necessarily mean everyone called to duty would have to serve. Instead, “young people (would) commit themselves to a couple of years in service to this great republic, whether it’s our seaports, our airports, in schools, in hospitals,” with a promise of educational benefits at the end of service.”

Yeah…. who is going to pay for this?  Didn’t the Dems win on a promise of spending less money on the military?

Working in hospitals… of course.  Because having 20-somethings enlisted by the government to change bedpans is clearly the solution to the problems with American health care.

Drafting pregnant ladies, parents of elementary-school kids, and a huge step towards socialism and incredible taxes… the pachyderm is already stocking champagne for the Republican 2008 victory party.
