Federalist Papers, No. 78

There has recently been a slew of articles arguing for higher salaries for federal judges. New York’s Chief Judge, Judith S. Kaye, opined that state judges should have the same pay so as to “maintain[] parity and equal respect with our federal counterparts.” The Honourable Ms. Kaye, not being a Southerner, is apparently unfamiliar with the idea of mules in horse harnesses: you can pay state judges as much as federal judges, but they are still icky.
