The Other Side of Pro-Life

Pro-lifers are often portrayed as fanatics who want to punish women for having sex. Neil has a great post that shows the other, humane side to the pro-life position. Feminists often state that pro-lifers are white, upper-middle class Christian males who want to punish women for having sex. The plural of “anecdote” is not “data,” so it is hardly fair to use Neil as a starting point to refute this stereotype; however, Time’s (reasonably balanced) article and the 4Simpsons take on it are enlightening and must-reads for anyone who thinks that pro-life is anti-sex.

  1. Don’t expect rationality in the abortion debate- it doesn’t seem to exist.

  2. Sadly, I’m learning that to be true. Of course, how can there be rationality when it is decreed, by judicial fiat, that we will have unrestricted abortion for at least three months after conception, and states can only limit abortion during the second trimester for compelling reasons?

  3. Thanks for the link! Here’s hoping for more reasoned discussion with the middle ground.

  4. You’re welcome!

I guess I keep hoping that the middle ground (those who hate abortion but don’t want it to be illegal) will really move us away from the Roe v. Wade model of abortion on demand (as a right) towards something that approaches sane legislation.
