It’s Official: Lincoln Chafee No Longer Part of GOP

As if we needed someone to tell us this: Lincoln Chafee has left the Republican Party:

Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he has left the Republican Party because the national GOP has drifted too far from him on critical issues, including the war in Iraq, the economy and the environment.

Err… the GOP has drifted too far away from him?  Isn’t that like saying that the Titanic drifted far away from Australia?  Buddy, you were never close to GOP values to begin with!

At least he is out of the closet.  If only RINOs #2-10 would follow suit.

  1. He likes the tax cuts though kinda like a Kennedy there. Apparently the silver spoon club isn’t paying what it used to. He needs to redefine himself so he can run against Sheldon Whitehouse ( another silver spooner). Is it just me ? When I say Sheldon I almost have to do it as a Jerry Lewis impersonation. Take care

  2. Funny how Romney is on that list. I’m for Duncan Hunter — no RINO there! Good. Solid. Conservative.

  3. Tammi,

True, but shouldn’t Guiliani be on the list?

“Good. Solid. Conservative.” Isn’t that a bit redundant? ;)

    In2theFray,

No, it’s not just you. :)

  4. It’s wholly dishonorable on his part. Nothing has substantively changed in the GOP since last fall, the center of gravity is exactly where it was, yet Chafee felt at home enough in the party then to take our nomination and our money.

He was perfectly happy to be “in” when being “in” meant keeping his job. If he’d been re-elected, would he still be leaving now? If not, why not? A small, self-important, self-interested, dishonorable man. Good riddance.

  5. Tell us how you really feel, Simon. ;)

You are correct: nothing about the GOP has changed since last fall (arguably, not for several years); I do wonder whether he would just drift leftward if reelected.
